Voice Notes

Record and manage voice notes, in Ideas, on a track, or on a section of a lyric.

What Are Voice Notes?

Voice notes let you capture quick ideas: a melody, a line, feedback, or anything else. Record directly in Locker or add recordings you already have.

A voice note can live in three places: loose in Ideas, on a track (on its Words tab), or as a take on a section of a lyric in the Writing Room.

Recording a Voice Note

  • Fastest: hold the plus and sing. The voice note goes straight into Ideas
  • Or press the plus and choose Voice note, or use the Record tile in All of Locker
  • On a track: open its Words tab and record in the Voice Notes box
  • In the Writing Room: record a take on the section you are working on

Voice notes in Ideas are private to you. When one belongs to a song, add it to the track.

Transcription & Smart Markers

Locker can transcribe your voice notes to text, which makes it easy to search through recordings and find specific ideas.

Smart markers point out the key moments in a voice note (like when you hum a melody, say a lyric idea, or give production direction) so you can jump straight to the important parts.

Transcriptions and smart markers make voice notes far more useful than raw recordings. You can scan the text instead of re-listening to entire recordings to find what you need.

Managing Voice Notes

  • Rename voice notes for easy identification
  • Star the ones you want to keep close
  • Add a voice note from Ideas to a track, or take it off again
  • View transcriptions and jump to smart markers
  • Find chords from the melody you sang
  • Move ones you no longer need to the Trash
